Karen A. Roberts, MSW, LISW, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who
holds a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology
from Indiana University. She has 17 years of experience including work
in the Ohio Health system and most recently for the City of Indianapolis,
providing assessment and counseling for children, ages 10 and above, adolescents
and adult clients.
Karen most enjoys working with couples, parents, and adolescent girls. In working with couples, Karen remarks, “Being in a marriage is the hardest job ever. People come to me feeling overwhelmed and helpless. I get satisfaction from helping both sides express their opinion while helping each person feel heard. The potential for growth and healing is enormous!”
Karen enjoys working with parents because as a parent herself, she understands that there is more than one side to an issue. “I believe I have a good perspective and ability to see all sides and help the family “meet in the middle.” Her clients agree.
Working with adolescent girls gives Karen a strong sense of satisfaction. She knows how to connect with them, how to listen to them and acknowledge their struggle. She helps girls to build a strong self image, including a positive body image. “I teach them to make good choices and how to talk with their parents about difficult subjects.”
Karen is trained in Nonviolent Compassionate Communication and also as a Critical Incident Stress Manager. Critical Incident Stress Management is a crisis intervention service designed to address the aftermath of violent acts such as accidents, crimes, and catastrophes. It is a standard of care that includes precise training, group debriefing, and post incident referral for primary and secondary victims.
